MASTER OF ACCOUNTING

The University of Malaya’s Master of Accounting (Reporting and Management Accountability) is a rigorous programme designed to equip students with advanced knowledge and strong foundations on theoretical concepts including analytical tools of accounting and its related areas. Courses are structured to provide the students with sound theoretical knowledge and research skills in order to them for the challenges facing accounting and business world. The learning approaches include a combination of lectures, case studies, written assignments, group project, presentations, class discussions as well as dissertations. The pedagogies are designed to assist the students in achieving the learning outcomes and to promote learning process in the most effective way. Each student is required to complete a minimum of 46 credit hours of learning and research activities that cover various aspects of the accounting field.

Courses are structured to provide the students with sound theoretical knowledge and research skills in order to them for the challenges facing accounting and business world.  The learning approaches include a combination of lectures, case studies, written assignments, group project, presentations, class discussions as well as dissertations.  The pedagogies are designed to assist the students in achieving the learning outcomes and to promote learning process in the most effective way.   Each student is required to complete a minimum of 46 credit hours of learning and research activities that cover various aspects of the accounting field.

Courses are divided into two categories: core and elective courses. In addition, students are required to undertake a supervised research leading to a dissertation in an area of their interest. Students are required to take a total of 46 credits as follows:

The dissertation for the Master of Accounting (Reporting and Management Accountability) provides an opportunity for students to conduct in depth, research in their area of interest. The dissertation should demonstrate that the student is able to identify issues pertinent to the accounting field and to develop an appropriate methodology for the research. The research component demonstrates that the programme emphasises on the development of strong and analytical research skills of the students.

  • Management Accounting Control System and Accountability

The elective courses:

  • Auditing and Assurance
  • Taxation and Business Decisions
  • Public Sector Governance and Accountability
  • Accounting and Auditing Issues for Islamic Transactions
  • Contemporary Issues in Accounting Research

Applicants for the programme should possess:

  • A bachelor’s degree (Honours) in Accounting or fields related to Accounting with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 or accounting qualifications from any recognized accounting bodies.
  • International applicants are required to have at least a band 6.0 for IELTS or a minimum score of 550 for the paper based TOEFL.
